Well it really feels like its been a long time since i emailed last! Haha wow! This week was long and full of some crazy stories, so be excited! Highlights of the work? We are working with a little family towards baptism. I hope they continue to progress! They are very humble, and money is tight, but they are good people and need this Gospel!
Oh goodness! We got to watch Conference in English live! The sessions were at 1:00 and 5:00 and the priesthood session at 9:00. We had special permission to go to the priesthood session. But the TV died during the priesthood session so I only got to watch through Elder Hollands talk. After that we were trying to fix it. Oh, and i watched the Sunday morning session in portugués which for me means i could understand separate sentences and ideas sometimes. But it was really really hard to follow so my understanding wasn´t that good. We got another tv to work by the last session and i got to watch that in English again. Oh my goodness! Conference was so good, it flew by so fast. That was the fastest conference of my life, i didn´t want it to end! But it did, so i will continue waiting for next conference! haha
Crazy stories of the week? We had the baptism of Daniela last weekend right? Well the chain holding the plug in the font broke, so last Monday night we tried to drain it and realized we had a problem. My companion was on the phone talking care of some business with the bishop i think. So, i got to work. This was my thought process: First i thought; i don´t have a towel, my clothes will get wet. Then; maybe if i take off my pants i can get in and take out the plug. then; no, my unmentionables will get wet. After this i thought; maybe if i just get half naked? Finally i accepted it; it looks like i have to get completely naked and go unplug it because the water is pretty deep. So that is what i did. Haha! Boy oh boy do the crazy Elder Kent stories rank up there. I undressed in the bathroom, went and got in the font, unplugged it only getting kind of wet, and then i dried off in the bathroom with paper towels and got dressed again. Mission success!
Other crazy stories, another dog urinated on my shoe. So i am up to 3 dogs marking me as their territory. Haha...
So here is a good story for the Kent family in general. We were teaching a lesson in the Bairro Antique. And after the lesson the man and woman were asking questions. They learned that Elder means missionary and that our names on our tags are our last names. So they asked our first names. I answered first, Derek. ´Ohhh, Dewek. E você?´ Elder Cameron R. answered without pause, ´Frances´. Haha! I almost bust a gut because she was telling us how beautiful our names were and Frances took me way off guard! haha that totally reminded me of growing up.
Haha this is the last crazy story; we were walking home from Antique, it was getting dark. Some guys called us over because they had a question about baptism for the dead and what the Holy ghost feels like. They were just trying to mock us. They were crenches (believers) from the Fonte Da Água Viva church. Haha well we told them we were leaving now and they wanted to have a prayer. So were ran across to one of their garages across the street. They wanted to hold hands, whatever, my companion offered a good prayer. Then the ringleader starts saying, ok it is our turn now! You are going to feel the Holy Spirit so strong your hair will stand on end! haha, the crench begins, ´Ohhhhhhh Senhor!!!!!! Haleilujueh!´ (I have no clue how to spell that). But that started ´praying´, they were all yelling and being quite hilarious. It was totally an adrenaline rush prayer! hahah I was trying not to laugh so hard!!!! It truly was hilarious and crazy. They were yelling a prayer, trying to convert us or something. Pretty funny.
Anyway, all is well here in Itabuna, Ála Fátima. Conference was slammin´. Haha Portugués is coming great. My biggest problem is understanding sometimes because people mumble and talk weird. The Lord leads this work, i have no doubt. The Church seems to get true-er and true-er every opposition or anti Mormon comment we get. It truly is the work of God. I testify this Church is really the only Church God leads. This really is the exact church Jesus Christ established here on the earth 2,000 years ago. Wow.
